  1. The Arizona Republic today (Sept. 1) carries obituaries of two people of particular note.

Rowland Oonk, 89, served on the Tempe City Council 1982-89. He ran into some issues and had to leave the council. He once had a toy store, Oonk’s Toy Things and later worked for St. Mary’s Food Bank. Rowland, a native of Michigan, died Aug. 25. No services are planned.

The other death is that of William Patrick French, 82, who was the presecutor in the impeachment of Arizona Governor Evan Mecham in 1988. He had a distinct legal career and was involved in the Civil Rights movement, the campaign of Bobby Kennedy for U.S. Senate and bar association work.
