Fire on Mill Avenue during rush hour (exclusive photos)

We were on the scene when a fire broke out on Thursday March 15th,2012 in the kitchen duct work of My Big Fat Restaurant.    This has happened before on Mill Ave. when the building that housed Stan’s Metro Deli burned to the ground during a grease fire in the late 1980’s.   If you like these photos please share them with your Facebook friends by clicking the link below.

Fire Destroys Downtown Tempe Building

By:  Tempe Thoughts

At approximately 8:00 am  smoke was seen rising from a vacant building in downtown Tempe.   When firefights arrived the second floor was fully engrossed in flames and the firefighters took a defensive posture to the fire according to Captain Kevin Bailey of the Tempe Fire Department.    The cause of the fire was not immediately known and witnesses are being interviewed according to Bailey.

The fire department has been called on “multiple occasions”  in the past, to this building according to Bailey.

The building has been vacant for years and the power disconnected, leading one bystander to comment “who else could have started it (the fire) but one of the many Mill Avenue transients?”     The City of Tempe did not have any immediate comment as to why the building was not secured with fencing, given the previous fires.
