Tempe events this week – The Cat in the Hat at the TCA

Childsplay presents Cat in the Hat at the Tempe Center for the Arts

Childsplay presents Cat in the Hat at the Tempe Center for the Arts

Childsplay will have some hilarious hi-jinks happening on stage this Sunday with the opening of The Cat in the Hat on Sunday, January 26.  At some point in your life, you’ve most likely read this time honored Dr. Seuss classic. Now you can watch it unfold on stage. And who better  to do that than Childsplay, Tempe’s award-winning professional theatre for families?

Cat and the Hat is a tale about one rainy afternoon in the lives of Sally and her brother. Their mother steps out and the cat in a tall, red-and-white-striped hat steps in. The mischievous cat turns a normal afternoon into a topsy turvy time for Sally and her brother and some action-packed fun for the Childsplay audience.

Cat in the Hat will be on stage at the Tempe Center for the Arts from January 26-March 16. Performances are on Saturdays at 1 and 4 p.m. and on Sundays at 4 p.m.  For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://tempe.gov/index.aspx?page=2302.

Tempe events this week – Wind down at TCA’s Finally Friday

With the holiday hustle bustle finished, I’m  good and ready for some post-holiday R & R. I can think of no better way to relax and re-wind that at the Tempe Center for the Arts’ (TCA) Finally Friday series.

Finally Friday brings local singer-songwriters who have performed at the TCA’s Songwriters’ Showcase series. This week’s singer/songwriter is Blaine Long.  I wasn’t  familiar with him, so I went to his website and was pleased with what I heard. His music is kind of folk/American roots. He has a nice voice and I really like his guitar strumming style. Blaine  also has a real pleasant manner and I suspect that he connects right away with his audience.

Yes indeedy, sitting in the intimate surroundings of the TCA lounge, enjoying a drink and tasty appetizers while listening to great live music, is my idea of a terrific way to chill out. Give it a try and I think you’ll agree.

Find your favorite way to enjoy some much needed R&R in this week’s events taking place in Tempe. View a complete listing of Tempe events, or call 480-894-8158.
